History 2004

The Danish Church Abroad / Danish Seamen´s Church is founded 1st January 2004.

2003
The two church organisations The Danish Seamen’s Church in Foreign Ports (founded 1867) and the Danish Church Abroad (founded 1919) decided Tuesday 9th December to join forces and form one large overseas church organisation. 

This historical decision was marked the same day by a celebratory church service in Nyborg Church in the presence of the Queen and with a grandiose procession of priests. In the evening 450 people celebrated at Nyborg Beach Hotel.

1. Queen Margrethe II is the patron of Danish Church Abroad / Danish Seamen´s Church. The Queen took part in the celebratory church service.
2. A.O. Andersen, foreman for Danish Church Abroad / Danish Seamen´s Church, on the rostrum during the celebratory evening.
3. The Bishops Erik Norman Svendsen and Søren Lodberg Hvas lead the procession of ministers.
4. The foremen for The Danish Seamen’s Church in Foreign Ports and The Danish Church Abroad, Claus Harms and Peter Stentoft, sign the merger.
